My first sighting of a mountain lion in the wild was while out walking my dog a few years ago down an old logging road. We had just got back to the pickup truck and started slowly driving away when one of these huge cats crossed about 100 feet directly in front of us. That moment left a lasting impression on me with the realization I had just laid eyes on one of the most elusive animals in the country, and had been out walking in the same spot only a few minutes earlier.
