In this piece I set out to depict one of those elusive whitetails that inhabit the heavy timber of northern Alberta. These areas more often conjure up mental images of large moose or elk rather than deer, and it's sometimes hard to imagine a whitetail living out it's life in such a habitat. Other than the flash of its tail, these bucks are seldom seen by humans and grow heavy dark antlers and bodies.
